**These values provide general information.
Solubility / thinnability Generally speaking, Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA can be diluted with different
polar to unpolar aliphatic solvents that are *mon when formulating lacquers. With polar solvents dilution of down to 20 % solid content can be reached. The storage stability of the corresponding dilutions needs to be checked, thoroughly. Especially, when using benzines dilutions need to
be done with due care and skill. The addition of Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA to the benzine-dissolved binder is re*mended. Only PU grade solvents (< 0.05 % water) should be used. Also, the solvents have to be free off reactive groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups.
*patibility Generally speaking, Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA can be mixed with various Desmodur® - and Bayhydur® - tyPES, e.g. Desmodur® N 3300 or N 3600, Bayhydur® 3100, XP 2655 or XP 2547. However, the *patibility must be tested in each case. As well, Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA can be dispersed in
various waterborne binders such as Bayhydrol® - types, e.g. Bayhydrol® A 2470, A 2646, A 242, A 2845 and U 2755. The overall formulation (solids content, co-solvent content, type of co-solvent) needs to be considered in order to achieve a stable and properly working formulation. In case you need technical suPPOrt, please, ask your supplier.
Properties / Applications Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA can be easily emulsified into the aqueous phase of
a water-borne lacquers or adhesive and is mainly used as co-crosslinker for
aqueous resins of the Bayhydrol® range.
Coating characteristics of aqueous two-*ponent polyurethane coatings can
be improved by addition of Bayhydur® 401-60 PGDA to HDI based Bayhydur® crosslinkers, such as Bayhydur® XP 2655 or Bayhydur® XP 2487/1.
Typical blends of Bayhydur® 401-PGDA with said HDI-based Bayhydur® crosslinkers contain 5-30 % of Bayhydur® 401-PGDA on total solids of crosslinkers.
Benefits of Bayhydur® 401-PGDA include for example:
Final performance properties, such as
• increase of surface hardness
• resistance to chemicals and solvents
Application properties, such as
• significantly longer pot-life, even at elevated processing temperatures
• faster drying
• improved robustness, including an increased blister free coating film thickness
Storage - Storage in original sealed Covestro container.
- Re*mended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C.
- Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material.
General information: Hydrophilic isocyanates are very moisture-sensitive and react with water to form carbon dioxide and insoluble urea. Containers must always be kept tightly closed. Contact with water in all forms (moist air, solvents, moist containers) must be avoided, because of generation of carbon dioxide and the dangerous increases of pressure. Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity.
Storage time Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full *pliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately.
The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro re*mends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
Labeling and statutory requirements This product data sheet is only valid in conjunction with the latest edition of the
corresponding Safety Data Sheet. Any uPDAting of safety-relevant information
– in accordance with statutory requirements – will only be reflected in the Safety Data Sheet, copies of which will be revised and distributed. Information relating to the current classification and labeling, applications and processing methods and further data relevant to safety can be found in the currently valid Safety Data Sheet.
Further information The product is used mainly as a hardener in coating materials or
adhesives. The handling of coating materials or adhesives containing reactive polyisocyanates and residual monomeric IPDI requires appropriate protective measures referred to in the safety data sheet. These products may therefore be used only in industrial or trade applications. They are not suitable for use
in homeworker (DIY) applications.
